What Is Faith in God? Definition of faith in the bible.

Hey there, faith is a very important subject for any believer. You may hear it said that faith is the key to unlocking all of God’s blessings and promises. What do you mean by faith? Well, I have just the thing. I have written an article that will help you with this hard topic.

What Is Faith in God?

According to Wikipedia: “Faith is a theological virtue defined as a gift from God which provides Christians with a strong belief in both Christ and his teachings.” In fact, according to The Free Dictionary online, “In Christianity and Judaism, religious belief or trust in and commitment to God or the divine”

God is defined as an “intelligent, all-powerful being who created the universe and answers prayers.” Faith in God, then, is belief in this definition. If you believe that there exists an intelligent, all-powerful being who answers prayers, you have at least some faith in God. You might even have a lot of faith in God if your belief goes deeper than just cognitive assent to this definition.

An example of someone with plenty of faith would be the apostle Thomas who displayed his strong faith by proclaiming “My Lord and my God” after seeing Jesus resurrected. Someone without much faith might say something like “Maybe there’s a god but he doesn’t answer prayers or interact with us.” Their lack of faith would be obvious. Faith in God, then, can vary from a weak personal belief that there is no God to a strong personal belief in the God who answers prayers and returns with us to heaven after we die.

Beliefs about Faith

Well as Peter put it as he was writing his 1st letter to the believers, “Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.” (1 Peter 1:22)

He told them that they should express their faith through good works.

Where Does Faith Come From?

Both Wikipedia and The Free Dictionary online both say that faith comes from God. However, I disagree with this viewpoint because it focuses on action rather than belief. What do I mean? Well, if you read in The Holy Bible about how Moses was talking to God when he said ‘”O Lord, I have never been eloquent…But now my Lord says please send someone else.”‘ (Exodus 3:10)

He also states that he is not a good speaker. If you believe God to be all-powerful, knowing everything, then why would these verses be in The Holy Bible? Well it may just show that you should have faith in God to do the work for him.

Different between faith and believe?

Faith and belief are terms which can sometimes be used interchangeably. There are many differences between faith and believe, but the one that is most significant to me is that “faith is believing something without the evidence of experience.” While Belief is “the acceptance as true of a statement, especially one based on unexamined statements or ideas; the state of being convinced.”

Faith and belief overlap in that if you believe something but it doesn’t seem true to you then you may question your level of faith. You may also lose faith if things happen that contradict what you believe. The difference between the two is that belief has less emphasis on whether what you’re believing is true or not and more emphasis on how sure you are about it (your degree of confidence).

But what does the Bible say about faith?

The bible tells us that faith is a gift from God that gives us a strong belief in both Christ and his teachings. The Holy Spirit gives faith to believers. Jesus was the first example of a human given faith by the Holy Spirit.

The Bible says that faith comes from hearing the word of God. Faith is never based on evidence or proof, but it always trusts God even when we don’t understand what’s going on in our lives. In 1 Peter 3:15, it teaches that we can be saved through faith and “so do not lose heart” even though we may be going through difficult circumstances.

In Matthew 17:20, Jesus taught us to pray for our faith to increase so that we may do amazing things like he did! This basically means don’t doubt yourself or feel guilty about your lack of faith because this only gives Satan room to influence your life. We must always remember that He will give us what we need when we need it!

How to Grow Your Faith in God

So what’s the key to growing your faith? How do you exercise it and make it stronger? Well, it all starts with building a relationship with God. The more time you spend with Him and obeying His Word, the more faith you will have. This is because as Jim Cymbala says in his book “The Power of a Whisper,” “Faithfulness breeds faith.”

How to Keep the Faith Alive.

How do you keep the faith alive? Well, if you are not feeling confident to pray or talk with God, I have some verses that can help. They are all from The Holy Bible which is considered to be the words of Jesus. These are verses I use when I am struggling to feel confident in prayer. They are as follows:

“And Jesus said unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” (John 20:29)

“And Jesus answered them, saying, My father worketh hitherto, and I work.” (John 5:17)

“If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15)

“And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the father may be glorified in the son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.” (John 14:13-14)

In Conclusion,

Faith comes from God and is a gift from him. A relationship with God can help us grow our faith and exercise it. It all starts by building a friendship with Him through prayer and time spent together reading The Holy Bible.

I hope this article has helped to shed some light on the subject of faith in God. It was very helpful for me to share with you all of the knowledge I have acquired about this topic.
